San Francisco Bay Run

I'm at SFO waiting for my 12:55 am red-eye flight back to DFW. A quick in and out trip this time, although nothing much happened yesterday that was "quick". I'll spare the details, but I did arrive DFW at 8:00am for a flight to San Fran and eventually took-off at 5:40pm for a flight to Oakland instead. In between, I took 2 conference calls, ate 3 meals, and did a bunch of email at the airport. I recommend none of the above.

After all that, at least the night ended on a pleasant note. The rental car agent was kind enough to give me a convertible instead of my compact car. I never took the top down, but it's the principle that counts. Then the hotel desk clerk gave me a nice corner room overlooking San Francisco Bay (photo courtesy of Hilton's website). A few miles away in the distance, I could see planes taking off into the night sky from SFO.

In the morning, I resolved to get out and at least get some running done. I vaguely remember running this path along the water some years ago when I first started running, but what sticks in my memory is that the path seemed to go on and on forever. I ran the entire length today and imagine my surprise that it was only 3 miles! The best part about it? I was done by 6:00am.

ha, i love your comment about the "only 3 mile". hanging out at airports isn't a whole lotta fun but you got to catch up on emails.

that's a beautiful sight. and three miles is still sounding far to some of us!

Isn't it cool to see how much you've progressed running-wise over the past few years? Now a 3-mile trail ain't nothin'!

It's a small (running) world after all; as in the paths are shorter than they appear in the mirror.

I remember the first time I pushed my envelope and ran my normal 2.5 mile run twice for 5 miles! It was like...awesome that I finished it. Then I started runnning marathons in late 2001 (I had run all of 7 miles at one time once when I bellied up to my first M. starting line; those were the days of my 5 hour marathons) and then I started running with groups in 2005 which was my next leap forward and now 9 miles is nothing. Now, 17 miles starts getting my attention; or maybe 14 if I have been a slacker. If only I could do a decent 22 miler!

I've noticed that when I return to run an old path -- it always seems much shorter the second time around. It sounds like you had a lot of frustration to burn off that morning -- and did. I love running in SF.

a similar thing happened to me. i ran from venice pier to santa monica pier and back about two years ago. it was the first time i had ever run that far. i'd like to go do that again.
