I was sitting in the plane last night when I felt a slight twinge in my forearm. A little leftover sting from last week. It suddenly dawned on me ... here's one good reason why my runs were so bad last weekend. What a week it was, that I even forgot I had donated blood on Thursday, had a rest day on Friday, and then attempted my pace run on Saturday morning. Duh! No wonder I was out of gas on that run!
I'm in San Francisco for a couple of days. There's a 3-mile EZ run in the plan for the morning. I'm hoping the red blood cells are back at full strength by then.

I did the same thing in June. Gave blood, then two or three days later went for a run with someone and couldn't understand why I felt so bad. It can take a couple of weeks to get back to where you were, but thank you for donating blood. You may have just saved someone's life.
I donated blood to all the spiders and no-see-ums that bit me while I was staying in Manhattan Beach last week. And good for you for donating blood. All of us should do that.
My work had a blood collection draw on the Wed. before the Sunday NYCM last year. Even I was smart enough to move up my donation to the prior Friday (nine days before). I was having a pretty good marathon run, with 3:45 in reach, and even had an escort pacing me, when suddenly at MP 21, inexplicibly I just started walking as my esdort went sailing on down Fifth Ave. unaware I'd just stopped. She had to double back and find me. I did a lot of wilking to Central Park. I've thought about it since and have come to the conclusion my blood donation cost me my BQ, nine days wasn't close to far enough out for 26 miles.
Very nice quote. Damn mosquitos!
That is a long week if you forgot about giving blood!
What a cute sign, that's hilarious!
Ha! Yes, giving blood will slow you down methinks.
Get lots of iron and protein*.
